Minnesota funds government using a combination of income, property, and sales taxes. Our income tax rates (both personal and business) are too high, and our property tax system is far too complicated. I support a flat personal income tax and elimination of the corporate income tax. Also, we must simplify the property tax system. There should be more reliance on consumption (sales) taxes and less reliance on income and property taxes.
Tax simplification would be another key component of my economic policy. I am the ranking Republican on the Tax Reform Division, and a member of the full Senate Tax Committee. It is clear to me that the complexity of our tax system creates unnecessary business costs and perverts economic incentives.
